Lao Wei

ch ch ch china
is made and remade every few hours

china has
teeth
that chomp through chicken feet
can separate flesh from bone

china is
a harder worker than I will ever be
and a million villages I will never see
tucked away down paths I will never walk

china
is a billion girls just like me
who I can only say ‘nihao’ to and nothing more
and the one girl who held my hand
as we walked up a mountain together
who laid her head on my shoulder
and took photographs of me in a rose garden
in front of Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower, a windmill
took pictures of me and her in any other world than hers

A terrain of memory manifest in wood, sawdust and words. Lao Wei is a landscape in construction and demolition. A portrait of place and subjectivity, shrinking and expanding, fragmented and improvised.

A performance installation
